Redundancy in a monitoring center refers to a duplication of critical systems such that if any component of the monitoring infrastructure fails, there is a backup in place. There are three different levels of redundancy: cold, warm, and hot.

Cold redundancy offers the lowest resilience, while hot redundancy provides the highest. In a cold redundancy setup, a backup server is neither powered on nor connected to the network. With warm redundancy, the backup server is network-connected, but staff must manually reconfigure the system to switch from the failed server to the backup. In contrast, hot redundancy involves a backup server that automatically takes over in the event of a server failure, ensuring seamless operation.

Hot redundancy is the gold standard when it comes to monitoring centers. This ensures seamless monitoring continuity with minimal to no downtime if an unexpected weather event or system malfunction causes a service disruption.
