What is a Proximity Card?
Isabel is a Marketing Specialist at DGA.
Proximity Cards are a type of access credential used in security systems. These cards work by communicating with a reader when brought within close range, eliminating the need for direct contact.
Proximity Cards use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to transmit data to the reader. The card contains a small embedded chip and antenna, which interact with the reader when placed nearby—usually within a few inches. Once the reader verifies the card's credentials, it grants or denies access based on the system's programming.
One of the key advantages of Proximity Cards is their convenience. Unlike traditional keys or magnetic stripe cards, they don't require swiping or inserting. This contactless functionality reduces wear and tear, extends the lifespan of the card, and allows for faster access in high-traffic areas.
