Also known as an Electro-Magnetic Lock, a mag lock is a highly secure and reliable locking method widely used in various settings, from commercial buildings to residential properties, typically used on building entry doors and glass doors. Designed with a powerful electromagnet and an armature (a metal plate), this locking system is secure and convenient.
Installed on or inside the door frame, the electromagnet generates a strong magnetic force that securely holds the door in a locked position when energized. The armature, a sturdy metal plate, is attached to the door itself. When the mag lock is in an activated state, the armature is magnetically attracted to it, creating a strong bond that keeps the door firmly closed.
One of the key advantages of a mag lock is its fail-safe feature. In the event of a power outage or electrical failure, the electromagnet loses power, causing the armature to disengage. As a result, the door automatically unlocks, allowing for a quick and easy exit or entry. You can read more about fail-safe access control in our blog post here.
